About Lake District Adventures
Lake District Adventures is a family owned and operated business based at the southern end of the beautiful Lake Karapiro, operating all year round. We can help you make the most of your visit to this largely undiscovered region of NZ. We started the business after enjoying our local area for many years, and we thought "hey - how can we share all of this with other people?"
Hire one of our quality mountain bikes and get out on the Waikato River Trail, winding through amazing native bush and open farmland. We provide transport shuttles to any point along the trail, or to any of the other cycle trails in the region.
Hire a kayak or SUP from us and glide along the calm waters of the lake, or for something truly unique our guided kayak Glow Worm tour is not to be missed! Every evening we drift through the Pokaiwhenua canyon surrounded by thousands of tiny 'lights' - an experience that you will remember forever.
If you have a desire to have a relaxing or adventurous day / 2 days / or more, breathing clean air & leaving city stresses behind - let us introduce you to our backyard!
Lake District Adventures is committed to delivering superior customer service in every instance. Our customers are our number one priority, and we aspire to pay meticulous attention to each customer’s needs and wants. We aim to offer the highest levels of professionalism and satisfaction.
We are passionate about and privileged to be able to share our spectacular local area. Our services are available for people of varying ages and fitness levels to try, and we pride ourselves on offering great value for money.
Steve Hastie - Operations Manager
Steve holds an Advanced Diploma in Travel and Tourism, and has been very fortunate to have travelled extensively. He has held various roles in the Airline industry, but has also done everything from delivering ice sculptures in London to driving massive dumptrucks in a coal mine in Central Queensland! Steve is dedicated to ensuring all guests enjoy their experience with us, and is passionate about constantly improving our products.
Sally Hastie - Marketing/Sales Manager
Sally has a passion for the outdoors and all sports. After also spending many years in the Airline, Tourism and Customer Service industries she really has an emphasis on creating lasting memories for our customers. Sally brings a lot of value to our team with her vast experience, and she is a Mum of 3... enough said!
Christiaan (Lofty) Filius - Lead Guide
Ever since Lofty was little and well before he left school all he wanted to do is go outside and go 'exploring'. So naturally when he left school that's what he did! With a Diploma in Outdoor Recreation in Rock / Kayak / High Ropes / Mountain bike / Hiking / Raft / Ski under his belt, he has for the last 15 years been a guide & instructor throughout New Zealand. He has also competed in freestyle kayaking, rock climbing and downhill mountain biking.
Lofty has never had a 9-5 job due to working in the ski industry, kayak store as head instructor and guiding for an outdoor adventure company.
Amelia has been involved in sport from the time she could walk - skiing, biking and rowing (plus many team sports) to name a few. She has a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and was a personal trainer and coach before landing a role as an outdoor adventure guide in the South Island. She has a real passion for anything and everything that involves the outdoors.
Born & raised in the area, Ann is passionate about the walks & trails that are in her backyard. She has been an active outdoors person all her life, plus was with Air New Zealand International for over a decade. Ann does a fantastic job of maintaining our magnificent gardens and grounds, and her goal is to see guests go away with great memories.
Mike Paget - Managing Director
Over the last 18 years living on the edge of the lake, Mike has introduced many people to kayaking the waters of Lake Karapiro. Having owned & operated his own businesses for many years he brings those skills to Lake District Adventures. Mike still does plenty of on-water guiding along with being the master of terrible 'Dad' jokes on your tours... not bad for a fella in his early 70's!
